I have begun taking SEO lessons from Suzanne Morrison, my PlugInProffitSite mentor. She sent me the following email that I would like to share with you.
Hi Sheila, You may received emails from time to time from so called "SEO experts". These emails are usually from someone that says that they have visited your website and can get you a guaranteed top ranking. Be careful of offers like this. There are many reputable SEO companies around, but none of them will send you unsolicited emails to try and get you to take on their services. Here are a few words of warning.... (1) Never reply to people that email you out of the blue claiming they can help you with your rankings. If they are so good at SEO why do they need to send you spam email? (2) Before you outsource any SEO work ask to see testimonials and examples of previous work. Also do a search for the company or the person's name in Google to ensure that there are not lots of negative reviews. (3) Don't spend lots of money upfront. If you are using the services of a new company start small and spend a small amount of money first and make sure you are happy. (4) Beware of people who promise "Guaranteed Rankings". It is very difficult to guarantee a ranking unless it is for some useless keyword phrase that doesn't get any traffic anyway. (5) Finally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Many people successfully outsource SEO work, but it pays to do due diligence before parting with any cash. If you are on a budget SEO can effectively be done yourself.
